Hematology

Hematology is a branch of pathology that focuses on the study of blood, blood-forming organs, and related disorders. It plays a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as anemia, infections, clotting disorders, and blood-related diseases.

1. Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Evaluates overall health by measuring different components of blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It helps detect anemia, infections, and other disorders.

2. Hemoglobin (Hb)

Measures the level of hemoglobin in the blood, which is essential for carrying oxygen throughout the body.

3. ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)

Helps identify inflammation in the body and is commonly used to monitor infections and chronic conditions.

5. Platelet Count

Determines the number of platelets in the blood, which are important for blood clotting and preventing excessive bleeding.

6. Prothrombin Time (PT)

Measures how quickly blood clots and helps diagnose bleeding or clotting disorders.

7. Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT)

Evaluates the blood clotting process and is used to detect coagulation abnormalities.
